It seems WordPress has changed its policies and now need a mandatory login to their system before you can access a file in a blog (such as the .txt TAB files in this blog)

To all people having problems downloading tabs, please try creating and account and logging in first. I know it’s a hassle, I’ll try to find an alternate method for hosting the tabs soon.

Last year I finished a CD called “La Abadía del Pecado” with my band SITCOM. You can visit us here (blog is in spanish):

We toured a bit around Caracas, and sold around 5000 copies of the CD, mostly to our friends and people coming to see us play. Unfortunately, piracy is a serious problem in Venezuela, so there are no more record companies, we had to do everything, from recording to distributing to advertising, by ourselves. We ran out of our own money at one point and could not promote the band by ourselves anymore. This, coupled with problems in our country, Venezuela, which is heading straight to communism, made our band pretty short-lived. Most of the band members left the country. I am now living in the Canary islands in Spain with my brother.

What about the classical guitar? Well I’ve been practicing it a lot lately, and would love to make new tabs! I’ve been studying a lot of Andrew York, so I’ll leave up to you readers which tab by York would you like me to do next:

Also, can you recommend a Mac program to make tabs easily (and fast)? Please share with me in the comments!

This is a beatiful prelude in C minor by the master Agustín Barrios Mangoré. The song may sound easy, but being in a somewhat uncomfortable key for the guitar makes it quite challenging. The trick is making it sound simple and accentuating the melody.

I’ve been prominsing to add left hand fingering to the tab since I made it 8 (!) years ago, so I’ll try to work on it this weekend.

Prelude in C minor tab

I’ve commented before that as a thesis for my mass communications major at “Universidad Católica Andrés Bello”, I made a 22 minute documentary about the great guitarist Aquiles Báez (you can read the whole story on the “La Casa Azul” tab post)

Since I don’t have a lot of time to update, I’m doing this experiment of keeping in touch through this blog. For now, I’ve posted the latest versions of all my tabs here. I hope to continue adding stuff, in the meantime, please leave your comments!

“Thanks for putting my music on the web” (Aquiles Báez)

There’s a great story about this tab. I made this in December 1997 and posted it to my page in Geocities. Aquiles visited my page and loved the tab, and wrote me an email, thanking me for it (Aquiles was born in Venezuela but lives in New York)

About a year later i saw him at a concert here in Venezuela, I approached him to say hi, and he instantly knew who I was. We then talked regularly through email and at his concerts.

Fast forward to 2004. I was looking for a subject for a documentary I wanted to make as a thesis for my Mass Media major. I contacted him, and he was very happy about it. I spent from December 2004 to July 2005 recording him at concerts, at home with his family, etc.

I then edited a 23 minute documentary out of everything. The happy ending is that I got the highest grade on my thesis!

In December 2005, the documentary was nominated for the VIART awards, an award made especially for student films and that accepts submissions from all Latin America. Although I didn’t win in the “Best Documentary” category, I won the “People’s Choice Award”!!!!!

The documentary was picked up by a nationwide channel for transmission!!! (VALE TV) and was broadcast on May 2006 (on mother’s day, you should have seen my mom!)

It was a great experience… The best thing is that now Aquiles and I are great friends!

So here it is, “La Casa Azul” from one of the greatests venezuelan guitarists, Aquiles Baez. It can be heard in his CD “La Casa Azul” along with other great pieces and arrangements of Venezuelan and international music.
